Truce Production Co. is adding celebrated storytelling director, Angie Bird, to its roster – a filmmaker whose raw, unflinching work has consistently challenged audiences for almost a decade. Truce will represent her for commercial work across Australia.

Michael Ciccone, head of production at Truce, commented, “Angie’s ability to craft visually stunning work that packs emotional weight is truly compelling, and it’s a privilege to add a director of her calibre to our roster.”

Bird arrives at Truce with two remarkable films attesting to her talent. Her explosive new film, My Friend, Max Hate, for White Ribbon, was recently listed among AdAge’s Top 5 Creative Campaigns to Know About Right Now. Created through Bensimon Byrne, the gut-punching short exposes the sinister machinery of online misogyny. The three-minute piece tracks a vulnerable teenage boy’s descent into toxic masculinity via a puppet influencer peddling hatred disguised as empowerment – a chilling reflection of real-world radicalisation happening daily across social platforms.

My Friend, Max Hate follows Bird’s equally powerful and confronting White Ribbon film, Short Life Stories, that explored trans acceptance and swept up at the 2024 One SCREEN with six awards, including Best in Show.

Bird has built her reputation by consistently delivering narratives that combine cinematic polish with authentic emotional heft. Her groundbreaking Gillette campaign, First Shave, highlighted transgender masculinity with remarkable sensitivity and dominated awards season, winning three Cannes Lions alongside Clio and One Show recognition.

Her project, Mean Tweets, for Raising the Roof earned Bird a Cannes Young Director Award while tackling the stereotypes around homelessness. Her work for the Myer, Give Registry, that aimed to empower women escaping domestic violence, was awarded two gold Clios and a silver Cannes Lion.

“I’m driven to craft stories that celebrate the depth of human experience—where raw emotion meets cinematic artistry, creating work that’s honest, visually compelling and sends a strong message,” Bird stated.

Elise Trenorden, executive producer at Truce, commented, “What sets Birdie apart is her radar for stories that matter. Whether she is working with major brands or tackling urgent social issues, she finds the beating heart in every project.”

Bird arrives at Truce at the pinnacle of her creative powers, poised to continue guiding campaigns that don’t just win awards, but actually shift cultural perspectives.
